A crown and bridge are dental prosthetic devices used to restore missing or damaged teeth. They can restore chewing function, enhance your appearance and improve your oral health. A dental bridge consists of crowns (that fit over your natural teeth on either side of the space) and artificial teeth (that “bridge the gap” in your smile)
Crown (Dental Crown): A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth. It serves to restore the tooth's shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often used when a tooth is extensively decayed, weakened, or cracked. They can also cover dental implants or hold dental bridges in place. Crowns can be made from various materials such as metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, all-ceramic, or all-resin, depending on the patient's needs and preferences.
Bridge (Dental Bridge): A dental bridge is used to replace missing teeth more than one. It consists of one or more artificial teeth called pontics, which are held in place by crowns that are placed on the teeth adjacent to the gap (abutment teeth). The abutment teeth are usually prepared by shaping them to accommodate the crowns. Bridges can be made from similar materials as crowns and are designed to restore the function and appearance of missing teeth, as well as to prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position.
